Online privacy had been one of the most discussed topics since the introduction of online blogs and social networks. With most of the attention place on Facebook before earlier this year, the topic remains ‘underground’ and only known for those who really want some cyberspace privacy, developers and business organisation or institutions. Any of us who familiar with Facebook can see that it require us to provide personal information and permission to post on our wall regardless whatever the application it might be.

hey Simon, that was a very good blog! I didn't know about google plus! haha
ReplyDeleteKeep it up!
Thanks Nadine =D Same to you. I think Google plus is open now so you can check it out ^^ If not I can also invite you by email. Hope it works that way :)
ReplyDeleteThis is written for everybody, Facebook had changed quite a lot from the time I was writing but it becoming complicated at the same time. Even in privacy setting it when you choose to limit the old post it already warning that you will have to set the posts individually if you change your mind afterwards, which is a pain :(
ReplyDeleteyees.. facebook changes pretty much every week!
ReplyDeleteyes indeed xD
ReplyDeleteThis will be an interesting discussion. Looking forward to seeing the full material. I like the nice snappy introduction. The picture is also attention grabbing too!
ReplyDeleteKeep it up
Yes they are already done as you scroll down :) It is true that the problem had been around quite a while but mostly knowing amongst those who had had some problem with privacy and the developers. Thanks so much for your interested. Please tell me if there is anything that would bug you too. I'll try my all to answer them :D
ReplyDeleteHey there Simon. Definitely excited to see what the result of your writing will be. From what I can see a lot of others are too this is a perfect topic. As we all know we are bang smack in the guts of the technological age, as we all know it is not going to disintegrate but simply progress aggressively. Google and Facebook have been slandered for a lot of privacy issues. One interesting concept you may want to look into is a comparison of whether Google/Facebook is a celebration of human success or a tool of potential destruction.
ReplyDeleteHi, thanks for your comment Chris. I think I published all of my posts already so would you mind try if there's more below?
ReplyDeleteAs I was talking about privacy so I'll have to leave your suggestion out because it would need more than 1000 words to talk specially about that. Both sides of service providers and consumers will be taking risk in this privacy thing as we all know temporarily Facebook is purely a social network and Google+ is an integration of the "Google Empire". However, Google+ doesn't have any ads 'until now' as being a significant advantage. There are advantages and disadvantages for not only Facebook and Google but for social network in general. The same goes for consumer as nobody want to manage many social accounts at once. Even imagining would be trouble some :)
Hope this brief answer your question somehow.
To Hassan. I can't see your comment here buut I did received it on my email. Regarding your point of view, I personally don't think it would be possible. Google plus took the fame as a child of the famous google empire so people get more interested in. This is the reason for its success in the early days. It would take more than 3 billionaires to overcome what been set out there by Facebook and Google now
ReplyDeleteIn addition, the reason people use both Facebook and Twitter is for each of its advantages indeed. However, Google plus with a strong support by its mother binary search engine and +1 button integrated. It has done enough to think it's possible to push Twitter out of the game :) This is only my opinion, no offend.
Hey Simon!
ReplyDeleteGreat topic you chose, i found this interesting to read because i would hear about google+ but didn't even know what it was about til now. I agree with how facebook started off private now as time goes by it's more open and even people you ain't friends with can read things you've posted. Facebook users i'm sure wouldn't want to put their friends into categories so Maybe after a little while who knows the google plus members might increase even more when people start to find out about it. great work Simon!
Thanks Luseane xD Try Google+ and you gonna love it as it is now. I don't know what happen later on but not Google+ have no flipping ads lol one draw back is +1 button isn't exactly like Facebook "Like" coz any thing you +1 (if in public) will improve the chance it appear on the search engine so you may wanna be careful on what you +1. Even now you can search for your full name or email address and surprised of what it comes up :)
ReplyDeleteIt is a very practical topic I think, since more than 90% of the university student in New Zealand nowadays are actually using in social networking sites like Facebook or twitters. The privacy issues does raise some concerns, but it is also responsibility of the users to check and understand what they are doing on the network is not going to endanger their privacy on the network, and take precautions like checking their firewalls, buying a scanning for Trojans and cleaning the cookies from time to time. If users does take these proper precautions, users can pretty get this issue done and over with. Still I could be wrong, their might be some genuine reasons stopping people from doing so, since I am not exactly an expert at computers and things.
ReplyDeleteI agree, their might be some links that looks just like the actual links but is fake and people just forget on how does it looks like. Solution for this is don't use any kind of links remembered in public computers, always type your own links or have your email drafts to remember them :P
ReplyDeleteI also didn't know there was google plus, thanks for the information :)
